Sounds Air have been operating for over 38 years and have vast experience flying in and around the Marlborough Sounds, Cook Strait, Wellington and Nelson.
Sounds Air was started by Cliff and Diane Marchant in 1987. They had a vision of providing low cost inter-island transport to provide locals and tourists with easy access to the Marlborough Sounds.
Since that time we have made over 225,000 crossings of Cook Strait to our own airport at Picton and also to Blenheim, Nelson, and Paraparaumu.
Sounds Air runs a fleet of Cessna Caravans. These are single engine, turbine powered and are the perfect aircraft for our routes providing high levels of passenger safety and comfort as well as being very sturdy and extremely reliable aircraft to operate.
- Sounds Air operate a fleet of Cessna Caravan aircraft.
- Operated single pilot under both VFR and IFR.
- Our line training is very thorough, usually taking 50-80 hours before a single pilot check to line. We do not have set minimum or maximum times for line training. We understand every person is different, and adjust line training requirements to suit the individual.
- We currently base crews in either Wellington or Blenheim.
- We pride ourselves on very high levels of customer service. In fact it is just as important to us as flying the aircraft well. All staff are provided with initial and recurrent training on our “G.U.E.S.T” principles of customer service, and all crew are expected to maintain these high standards throughout their employment.

- Instrument Time: 75 hours
- Night Time: 50 hours
